Can we get married in a balloon?
You can, but in all honesty I don’t recommend it. A wedding, even a simple one, has a lot of moving parts, and takes a lot of planning. Hot air balloons, for all of their whimsical charms, are unpredictable and entirely at the mercy of the weather.
Ballooning in Australia also tends to happen first thing in the morning and often involves walking through muddy paddocks, which provides something of a challenge in the hair, makeup and footwear departments. Balloons are great for romantic proposals, slightly less so for weddings.
All that being said, if you have your heart set on getting married in a balloon, give me a call, and we can chat about logistics.
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! There are a few phrases that have to be included from a legal perspective, but I’ll work with you to integrate these into vows that are deeply meaningful and represent you and your partner’s love.
What sort of ceremonies can you do?
Whatever you like, as long as it’s secular. From adventure weddings to chilled, from formal to themed, I’m open to all cultures, traditions and values.
I also do funerals (both for the living and deceased), vow renewals and naming ceremonies for both human and fur babies! I can also act as MC at your wedding reception or event, if you want someone to keep things moving along with a dash of personality.
How long does a wedding ceremony last?
That depends on you.
The minimum legal requirements take about 10-15 minutes to complete, but a personalised ceremony generally lasts for around 30 minutes, depending on the content.
If you’re a Reverend, why do you do secular weddings?
I am not a religious man. If pressed, I would describe myself as an atheist, in that I don’t believe in God or Gods. But I believe in love, and I believe in marriage.
I became a Reverend of the Universal Life Church a few years ago to make some sort of point, but over the years I’ve realised that the Reverend image carries with it a level of authority, despite the acts of some wearing the robes.
From a practical perspective, it also makes dressing for work easy.
Do you do destination weddings?
Of course! I’d hardly be The Flying Reverend if I wasn’t willing to travel.
Reasonable travel fees apply outside the Sydney metropolitan area.
